How to Create a RW Patronage Network
Peter Thiel? Bannon? Elon? Anyone with a bit of money? We can make this happen... I promise sensitive young men can write in a cabin without becoming Uncle Ted
If you went to an elite school, you no doubt have heard about prestigious writing fellowships. Perhaps your school even had a few fellows (both my high school and college did). You could also surmise that these are completely controlled by the leftist establishment. Read this article on Substack and you will see countless opportunities. You can get paid to live in your choice of idyllic America to merely write. The catch? You must be a gay race communist.
I recently made a small tweet (nearly approached a record here at 4 likes and 2 retweets) pontificating on the matter.
There’s (ironically) a very boomer joke that bears reflection here. It goes something like, “Looks like the Democrats were holding strong in the vote tally until the Republicans got off work.” My absolute vitriol for the worms that run both parties aside, there is something deeper in the soul of this thought. Replace petty parties with men of nomos and men of strength (phusis for Mr. Alamariu enjoyers). The spiritually weak are far more likely to be idle, to have meaningless lives, and the ability to throw away time since there is little opportunity cost. Men of strength, however, are far more likely to have high paying jobs or families they cannot merely abandon to pursue art. A leftist, bisexual barista has nothing to lose going for an artsy fellowship, the vital but tortured soul of an Apollonian man needs more assurances.
We are caught in a maelstrom. Many love to complain how literature is dead and that Celine was the last real author (it was Cormac McCarthy, rest in power). Not only this, but the current slop produced by the weak is actively funded and encouraged while the good is suppressed (and is often funneled into meaningless pursuits like Wall Street careers). There are many vital youth with talent who can write. What they lack is the patronage to do so. Despite his absolute genius, even Da Vinci survived off of the patronage of others.
So what is the answer? Its simple, spend a small amount of money to fund fellowships for right wing thinkers and authors. Instead of Bannon wasting millions on some insane institute, he could have built a patronage network for less than $100k. You may be skeptical, you may even think this will only produce a few crackpot novels. I strongly disagree, this is feasible and doable.
How do We Accomplish it?
The first step is to acquire land. Mr. Musk, I fully believe you have the money to buy some cabins and give out food stipends. I suppose you could just give people money to rent Airbnb’s but we want something more stable. But to make this real, I’ll provide some examples I found below. Here are 4 potential locations at affordable prices I found by scrolling around a map within 15 minutes.
OPTION 1: THE LAND PLOT
Our first option is to buy land and build. It gives the most control but also will take the most time and investment. You can get land in pretty (but remote) areas like this for cheap. For the long term, buying land (a large ranch would be optimal) is the goal.
OPTION 2: THE CABIN RETREAT
A remote, already built retreat is also ideal. This option in Wyoming is cheap and has built in inspiration. Genius or madness (or both) can be born here.
OPTION 3: THE ISLAND
Still reasonably priced, this is a larger option that could potentially host a group of writers or thinkers. Its on Kodiak Island and provides escape while having some stores in the area.
OPTION 4: DESERT COMPOUND
This option offers a different vibe for a similar cost. Also large enough to host several people. It is a little closer to civilization than the others which may entice some more hesitant Yuppie writers.
SETTING CRITERIA
The most important step is to have a firm goal in mind for your fellowship. Are you trying to get the next great novel out of it? A new philosophy? Or are you trying to develop a whole new class of men to conquer new lands in the post-Faustian world? Perhaps you are unsure, but you are a billionaire who knows that post-modern art extirpates our souls and just wants to give someone a chance to change that.
When you solidify what your ideal end state looks like (or even have an almost corporate ‘mission statement’), it will be easy to choose a property that corresponds to it. Maybe you don’t even want a property, perhaps you’ll fund a life at sea or direct the applicants to find you in the depths of the Amazon (I would have sought out Colonel Kurtz if I was in ‘nam, others would to). These goals will dictate what amenities are present, privateers will need weapons and vitalists will need a gym for example.
BUILDING IN A STIPEND AND TIME DURATION
In addition to providing shelter and escape, you will need to provide some money. There are a million websites that show you the cost of living somewhere (businesses and the government determine per diem off of zip codes usually). The easy answer is to give them the cost of living of the nearest city (or make them survive off a garden and hunting if you want to forge a man of iron or something like that). To call a spade a spade, this is unlikely to run you more than $10,000 on the higher end.
Your next decision will be the length of these fellowships. If you read about the leftists ones, they range from mere days to nearly half a year. You could have long term projects, conditions based ones, or even a rotating short retreat. When you have the money to fund a passion project the world is your oyster.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Discernment is the critical piece. This presents the opportunity to escape the BIPOC and LGBGTGDAQUIQIA+ requirements everything in society has now. Fuck, if you want to go the full other direction, make an Anglo-Saxon Heritage American only fellowship (Irish need not apply). Decide your audience but have a way to vet applicants thoroughly .
And for the love of God, do not make it into a gay corporate zoom interview shitshow that we all have endured for five years now. Make it interesting. Make them write, or discuss philosophy, or even have them grab a beer with you and see if they’re crazy enough to give a license to freedom. Escape the mentality of a hiring manager (hard for conservative boomers who can fund this, I know) and think like a mad, decadent Roman Emperor. The avant garde is formed up and ready, it just needs Ceasar and Crassus to come lead it.
CONCLUSION
The least of your concerns is advertising. All it needs is a BAP (or similar) tweet and you’d have thousands of applicants to choose from. And of those you reject, you should still keep a great many on retainer and perhaps create new opportunities for them. The money is there and I’m willing to bet a great deal of ideal property is already in the hands of frogs and frens. What is missing is the connection and organization to make this happen.
Instead of complex networking rituals that result in backstabbing, there is a serious opportunity to create patronage networks. There’s a reason that the Renaissance produced such high art. The artists had the funding to pursue their passions and enjoy leisure. No one is creating MacBeth in the 4HL. We may not have a Cormac McCarthy anymore, but we can recreate him in the aggregate.
This was a cool idea, I'd like to see it fleshed out some more. Particularly when it comes to the criteria of who you choose to accept into your fellowship. Lately I've found that vibes are the best indicator for deciding whether I want to be around someone or not and you can tell that right off the bat when you meet them. Perhaps this is what women are so good at and men just lack that skill.
In the 19th century, there were tons of people who fucked off and created communes as experiments to see if they could work. Lots of interesting stories there I'm sure. Those could serve as blueprints of how something like this could potentially work. But the idea of a patronage is lost on the modern world and I think it making a comeback would be great, just in general. The average young boy needs to be patronized somehow.
Beautiful vision. Agreed.
